Who can join ASAAL?+
Membership is open to all South Asian workers (Afghan, Bangladeshi, Bhutanese, Indian, Maldivian, Nepalese, Pakistani, Sri Lankan origin), union members, community activists, leaders, professionals, self-employed individuals, and small business owners — anyone who believes in the ASAAL movement.
How much are membership dues?+
Yearly dues are $20, or $10 for retirees and students, and $50 for a family with children. Life membership is a one-time $300 ($500 with spouse, $750 for the entire family) and comes with recognition. Do I need to be in a union to join?+
No. ASAAL members include union and non-union workers, community activists, professionals, and small business owners. If you're not in a union and would like to be, ASAAL can help you connect with one in your industry.
Why do you ask for a photo?+
The photo is optional. It helps your chapter recognize you and, only if you check the permission box, lets ASAAL include you in chapter directories and publications such as the convention magazine. Photos are stored privately on ASAAL's server and are never shared with third parties.
What does membership get me?+
Membership gets you a vote in chapter and national leadership elections, an invitation to the annual convention, voter-mobilization toolkits, regular policy briefings, and access to ASAAL's network across 22 chapters and 12 states.
